Welcome to guest author the fantastic Karen Luellen with her Winter's Saga

Welcome Karen, thank you for visiting the blog today

Tell us a little about yourself
I’m an author of the young adult series, Winter’s Saga—by night!  By day, I’m a coffee-drinking kindergarten teacher who lives in north Texas with my sweet husband, four crazy kids, two rescue cats and one rehomed, blind dog.

What book/s have you brought along to tell us about today?
Winter’s Saga is a science fiction, action, adventure series.  I just released the fourth book in the series and it is being very well received by fans of the series.

Are you working on another book right now?
I sure am!  Book #5 in the series is already underway!  I’m looking forward to a March 2013 release for it.  There will be at least six books in the Winter’s Saga before it’s through.

What do you enjoy most about writing?
I love the roller coaster ride that begins in my imagination then spills across the screen as fast as my fingers can type knowing someday, someone else will take this ride with me.  I love being a story teller—bringing my readers right into the story so they feel their heart race with the fear and excitement.  Or they gnaw on their lips with worry, anxious to know what’s going to happen next.  Or sigh with happiness at the tender moments between family members or couples.

What do you like the least?
Sometimes I push myself too hard and my brain has turned into mush, but I’m addicted to the thrill of writing so I don’t want to stop.  Except, I have to because now it’s not working anymore.  I’m too tired and my mind won’t form a single useful sentence, let alone paragraph.  I don’t like having to step away from my work, but it is a necessary part of the process.  I’m usually able to come back with a fresh mind and the words flow so much more readily after a break.

Would you like to see any of your books as movies?
Oh heck yeah!  The entire series plays out like a movie or TV series.  I’ve had countless readers beg me to do something about making it happen; I’d love to, but I am just a lowly kindergarten teacher and alas have no Hollywood contacts.  *sniff*  :-)
If so can you name any actors you would like to see as the lead characters in your book.
I’ve been told that Vanessa Morano looks exactly like Meg Winter.
I think Maggie Gyllenhaal would make a wonderful Dr. Margo Winter.

What things do you like to do to relax?
Music.  Music definitely relaxes me.  I listen to everything from Classical to 3 Doors Down to Taylor Swift to Seether and Evanescence.  My taste depends on what I’m writing.  I choose the music based on the scene.

Do you have another job as well as writing?
This is my tenth year teaching—nine of those years in kindergarten.

If you could have one super power in your existence, what would it be?
Wow, only one?!

If money were not an object, where would you most like to live?
I would stay in north Texas.  I love it here!  Maybe I’d choose a home on the edge of a lake.  I love water; I feel peaceful when I can look out and see water.

What kind of car would you have if money was no object?
A red mustang, of course!

What’s your favorite food?
Steak cooked medium well, twice-baked potato, honey glazed baby carrots and a tall glass of sweet tea.

Favorite color?
Red

Can you think of a song or piece of music that could be your theme tune?
There are too many to choose just one!

Just answer these questions as quickly as possible.

What do you love best about yourself?
Um…I guess I have a pretty goofy sense of humor.  I love making my husband laugh. :-)

What do you like least?
I’m very hard on myself.

Do you have anything to share with other authors that might be a help?
Don’t write the bits you would skip over yourself if you were reading the story.

Is there anything you would like to say to your readers?
Thanks for putting up with me and looking past some errors to find the heart of the story.  Thank you for loving the Winter Clan like I do.  Mostly, thank you for taking the time to read my little stories and if you were entertained even a little, then it was all worth it to me.

Can you share one of your favorite parts of one of the books?

Tears slipped silently down her cheeks as she nodded.  “I don’t want to fight you, Theo.  I finally got my best friend back after all these years.  I love you and I love our children.  We can make this work, right?”
“We will,” Theo smiled widely as he carefully slipped a sparkling diamond ring on the fourth finger of her left hand.
“I love you, Margo.  Will you please marry me and make me the happiest man in the world?” he grinned hopefully at the woman always meant to be his.
“Theo, now?  You crazy, silly man!  You’re asking me to marry you moments before I’m told whether I’ll ever walk again?” Margo’s eyes were lit with surprise and joy at the romantic fool on his knees in her hospital room.
“I’ll take care of you no matter what.  Please, Margo.  No one could love you more than I do.  I’ll do anything you want, just please say ‘yes’.”
“Theo, what if I’m not even able to walk down the aisle?”
“I’ll carry you.”
“What if I can never make love to you,” her eyes dropped, embarrassed to bring up the subject.
I’ll make love to you.” Theo answered without hesitation.
“What if our children hurt one another?”
“Our children are old enough and intelligent enough to handle their differences with respect for our family.”  Theo’s jaw was locked with decisiveness.
“What if…”
“Margo, there is nothing you can imagine that would make me change my mind.  I love you.  Marry me.”
“Yes,” Margo burst into the widest smile and giggled and coughed through tears of joy.
“Yes?” Theo stood without letting go of his fiancée’s hands.
“Yes!” Margo nodded looking up into the bluest eyes of the man who loved her unconditionally.
“SHE SAID ‘YES’!” Theo hollered to the room that instantly filled with family.  Evan, Meg and Creed came bursting in clapping and whooping up a storm.

Winter's Awakening (Book #1 in Winter's Saga)
Created for evil.
Raised to protect.
Searching for truth.

Extraordinary teen Meg Winter and her brothers Alik and Evan are shoved into a new reality when they discover life is not what they thought it was: there is evil hunting them, they are not normal teens, and their mother's captor wants them back to continue his plans for the perfect race.

Winter's Storm (Book #2 in Winter's Saga)
Born into evil.
Raised for violence.
Searching for truth.

In the second book of Winter’s Saga we meet Creed Young. He’s a metahuman, like Meg, Alik and Evan Winter, but unlike the Winter children, Creed wasn’t rescued by a goodhearted doctor from the experiments and traumas at the hands of the evil Dr. Williams. No, Creed wasn’t that lucky. Instead, he was raised along with hundreds of other metasoldiers in a militant compound to be a lethal, bloodthirsty assassin. His first assignment: To kill the thief, Margo Winter, who stole three children from Dr. Williams’ institute twelve years ago, and return those stolen assets

Winter's Wrath: Sacrifice (Book 3 in Winter's Saga)
Tormented by evil.
Haunted by choice.
Searching for redemption.

Lines between good and evil blur as the Winter family fight for survival in Winter’s Wrath: Sacrifice. Book #3 in Winter’s Saga delves into the choices we make and the butterfly effect on the world around us. Meg Winter must cope with the caveats of her evolved gift or be consumed by them. Her family and friends watch helplessly as she struggles to find herself, learn what is worth fighting for and let go of things beyond her control. Will she break free of her own fears before it’s too late or let her insecurities.

Winter’s Warrior: Mark of the Monarch (Book #4 in Winter’s Saga)

Flanked by darkness

Ensnared by enemies

Divided by deception

The evil that is Dr. Kenneth Williams is undisputed. The Winter family has been relentlessly hunted and tormented by the original creator of the Infinite Serum. They have aligned themselves against his wicked ways and fought to right the wrongs of that monstrous scientist. All this time, they thought their battle was just against him and his metahumans. A swift and brutal attack on their peaceful ranch home introduces them to an entirely different and far more malicious enemy. Someone who has been there all along, in the background, powerful, brilliant and exceptionally more dangerous than Williams ever was. With a chiseled face and handsome physique, I must introduce….
